In September, a photo-documentary exhibition “Mass Famine of 1946–1947 in Soviet Ukraine” was opened for visitors of the Medzhybizh State Historical and Cultural Reserve. The exhibition is exhibited within the framework of the project of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide on transferrring of banner exhibitions about the Holodomor-Genocide of 1932–1933, mass artificial famines of 1921–1923 and 1946–1947, and repression against priests and intellectuals to the regions of Ukraine.
The Second World War belongs to the tragic events that determined the development of the history of our country in the second half of the 20th century. Soviet Ukraine was then given a frontline role with all the horrible consequences. The war went through human souls and destinies. In four years, our land has been plundered, cities and villages destroyed, and human blood flowed. After the war, the population of Ukraine hoped to improve the attitude of the state to the daily needs of people. However, the hopes of the people did not come true. Stalin's policy, who planned to rebuild the USSR's industrial complex from sources of agricultural financing, led to another large-scale starvation of the population of Soviet Ukraine. Lack of manpower, withdrawal of collective farm grain, symbolic payments for work caused food shortages. Ukrainians were again in "hell" – half-starved existence, hard work, repression and persecution.
Photo-documentary exhibition "Mass Famine of 1946–1947 in Soviet Ukraine" reveals the causes of post-war famine in Ukraine, shows the lives of different segments of the population during those years and the effects of the catastrophe. Particular attention is paid to the role of the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR authorities in bringing citizens to starvation.
