The "Train of Ukrainian Identity"

Projects of museum02 January 2019

We, the Ukrainians, are autochthonous people on our land. We have our own language, an original culture and a statehood. We have long been distinguished by a unique character based on the balance of rationality and emotions, the thirst for freedom and hard work. As a result of our state-building competitions 100 years ago, the Ukrainian People's Republic appeared on the world map.

But in 1932-1933, in Ukraine occupied by the Bolsheviks, one of the greatest crimes in the history of mankind - the Holodomor-genocide - was committed. The Ukrainian  nation was the object of the genocide. The main organizer of the crime, Joseph Stalin, was intended to prevent the withdrawal of Ukraine from the USSR.

The communist regime destroyed Ukrainian farmers - the bearers of traditions, customs, language and culture. The genocide was directed against the Ukrainian intelligentsia, the Ukrainian church, against every active bearer of Ukrainian identity. He was to destroy the Ukrainian nation as such by the means of the physical killing of Ukrainians, the humiliation of the Ukrainian language and culture, the falsification of Ukrainian history, the elimination of entire institutions and the removal of the names of national heroes from the book of existence of Ukraine.

Precisely about unique subjects and phenomena of culture and science, social development and everyday life, about Ukrainians who changed history and in the early twentieth century defined a nation ready for a sovereign life, about everything that constitutes our identity is intended to tell the social informational project of the National Museum "Holodomor Victim’ Memorial" and the ME Kyiv Metro - "The Train of Ukrainian Identity".

The project is prepared for the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor and  is devoted to the memory of more than 7 million Ukrainians - victims of genocide in Ukraine in 1932-1933. The exhibition is demonstrated  in the train of the Kyiv underground from November 21 to December 11, 2018.
